WAPA is the West Australian Pistol Association and is made up of Clubs whose purpose it is to promote the sport of Pistol Shooting. Currently there are 37 clubs affiliated with the Association with a combined membership of approximately 900 members. Cockburn Fremantle Pistol Club represents approximately 180 members and growing.

PA is responsible for conducting national championships in all ISSF, International 1920 Match, Metallic Silhouette and WA1500 match events. Its members are represented through Australian International Shooting Limited (AISL) to the International Shooting Sports Federation (ISSF), the Australian Olympic Committee (AOC), the Australian Commonwealth Games Association (ACGA) and the Australian Sports Commission (ASC).

The ISSF is the only organisation recognised by the International Olympic Committee (IOC) as the governing body of amateur international shooting sport for all international shooting competitions. Thus the ISSF controls the technical regulations in all the target shooting disciplines including pistol, rifle, running target and shotgun.
